A Message from the Trustees

Our first message to you as Trustees of the Hestia Foundation is thank you for taking the time to come to this website and learn more about this exciting community care project in Zambia. The simple foundations of this project are based on our personal experience in Zambia as well as the internationally accepted principles of community care, as formulated by the United Nations and the Institute of Child Health, University College London, UK.

Providing programmes which give women income generating skills has been proven worldwide to empower women. When women, who have suffered life far below the poverty line, become empowered for the first time, positive changes really begin to happen. Women who attain income generating skills bring that income into the household and it therefore benefits all members of the household. The mentoring, which takes place through the skills training, empowers women to take charge of their lives. This means learning about HIV and taking positive action to deal with HIV in their lives, the lives of their children and the collective lives of their communities.

We hope you will gain an understanding of this positive message from this website and be encouraged to support our work. It would be a great privilege for us to serve as a bridge between your generosity and the needs of the courageous women in the Chilenje Women and Child Group.

The Chilenje Women and Child Group is funded through the Hestia Charitable Foundation
