Keep A Child At School Programme

€240 (£220/$340) a year for 3 years

The Keep A Child at School (KACAS) programme came into being as a direct result of the positive community work done by the CWCG women. The primary goal of KACAS is to initiate and or maintain education for the children of vulnerable families. The programme is focussed on personal and family enablement through education and mentoring support. Sponsorship funds are never given directly to the family.

Typical use of sponsorship funds would be:

  • school uniforms
  • school books
  • shoes
  • school meals
  • and in some cases boarding fees

Sponsorship funds are directly applied to costs deemed appropriate by the Programme Manager Molly Chisenga and her deputy manager Mulenga.

A great deal of time and professional consideration is given to the selection of children in vulnerable families, to ensure that the children selected benefit greatly from the programme. This includes in-dept discussions between Molly, Mulenga with their teachers and a minimum of two home visits to fully understand the social conditions of the family. Children are accessed in terms of their motivation, ability to maintain school attendance and their personal awareness of how important education is to securing their future.

Case Study: Moses Sialuzi

Moses is a very bright young man who wishes to become a doctor. he achieved very good results in his recent exams and achieved a place at Chongwe High School, a boarding school which places a special focus on scholastic achievement. The Sialuzl family is unable to pay for the basic supplies that Moses will need to attend this school, such as the cost of uniform, shoes, books and boarding fees are completely beyond the means of this poor family. Moses has been working on building sites to raise money for his schooling but often this money has been needed to pay for basic food for himself and his nine brothers and sisters. Moses lives primarily with his grandparents, who do not have running water or electricity in their home.

Sponsoring Moses for his education costs for three years will sustain his obvious intelligence and motivation. Without this sponsorship Moses is trapped in the degrading cycle of poverty and hopelessness.
